- information you share when enquiring about or taking part in coaching, mentoring, supervision, consultancy, training, events or other services;
- booking, contract, payment and invoicing information;
- communication and accessibility preferences;
- information you provide when entering a prize draw, attending an event or joining a mailing list;
- correspondence between you and Those Interesting People;
- basic technical information about how our website is used.
We only ask for information we reasonably need.
Sensitive information
You may choose to tell us information about your health, disability, neurodivergence or other matters that count as special category data under UK data protection law.
We do not need your life story in order to work with you.
Where you choose to share this information, we will only use what is relevant to providing the service, making appropriate adjustments or responding to what you have asked us to do.
Where required, we will ask for your explicit consent to process this information.
Why we use your information

Respond to enquiries
If you contact us, we use the information you provide to respond, arrange a first conversation and explore whether Those Interesting People or someone in our wider network might be useful.
Our lawful basis is usually legitimate interests – specifically, responding to people who have chosen to contact us and managing potential client relationships.
Provide services
If we work together, we use your information to manage and deliver the agreed work, including contracts, payments, bookings, communication and administration.
Our lawful basis is usually performance of a contract or taking steps at your request before entering into one.
Run events and prize draws
If you register for an event or enter a prize draw, we use the information you provide to administer it, contact participants or winners and meet any legal or regulatory requirements.
Our lawful basis is usually performance of the terms of the promotion and our legitimate interests in running it fairly and properly.
Entering a prize draw does not automatically sign you up for marketing.
Send marketing emails
If you actively choose to receive emails from Those Interesting People, we may send you occasional news, ideas, events, resources and information about ways to work with us.
For individuals, we normally rely on your consent.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email or by contacting us.
We keep a record of marketing preferences so that we can respect them.
Meet legal and professional responsibilities
We may use or retain information where necessary for accounting, tax, insurance, safeguarding, professional standards, dispute resolution or other legal obligations.
Our lawful basis may be legal obligation or legitimate interests, depending on the circumstances.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information where necessary with trusted organisations that help us run Those Interesting People, including providers of:
- website hosting and website forms; (Stablepoint)
- email and mailing-list services; (Mailerlite)
- diary and booking systems; (Calendly/Google)
- payment and accounting services; (Xero)
- IT and cloud storage; (Stablepoint/Dropbox)
- professional or administrative support. (Monday)
For example, we currently use MailerLite for email communications and some landing pages and forms.
These organisations process information on our behalf under appropriate contractual arrangements.
Where work involves another Interesting Person or specialist, we will only share information that is reasonably necessary and appropriate to that work.
If the best person for your enquiry sits outside Those Interesting People, we will not simply hand your details over without discussing that with you first.
Information processed outside the UK
Some of the technology providers we use may process information outside the UK.
Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as recognised adequacy arrangements or approved contractual protections.
MailerLite, for example, states that international transfers made through its service are subject to applicable data protection safeguards and contractual protections.
How long we keep information
We do not keep personal information indefinitely just because we can.
As a general guide:
- enquiries that do not become client work: usually up to 2 years after our last meaningful contact;
- client records: normally up to 7 years after the end of our working relationship, subject to professional, insurance, legal or contractual requirements;
- financial and accounting records: for the period required by law;
- prize-draw information: only for as long as needed to administer the promotion, deal with any queries and demonstrate that it was run fairly;
- marketing information: until you unsubscribe or we determine that it is no longer appropriate to keep it.
We may retain a minimal suppression record after you unsubscribe so that we know not to contact you again.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you;
- receive a copy of it;
- ask us to correct inaccurate information;
- ask us to delete information;
- ask us to restrict how information is used;
- object to particular uses of your information;
- ask for certain information to be transferred to you or another organisation;
- withdraw consent where we rely on consent.
You have the right to object to direct marketing at any time.
If you withdraw consent, this does not affect anything lawfully done before you withdrew it.

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling to decide whether we work with you, which practitioner you work with, or what support you should receive.
Humans make those decisions.

Some of our professional work may involve young people.
Where this happens, we take particular care with privacy, safeguarding, consent and the amount of personal information we collect.
The general website and marketing mailing list are not designed to collect personal information directly from children.
